BENDT Whiskey Cakes
Honoring and creating traditions
Growing up, BENDT co-founder, Natasha DeHart looked forward to the holiday rum cakes that were made and gifted to her family by a close family friend every Christmas. The countdown would begin in mid-December, and as soon as the cake was delivered to the house, everyone would grab a huge slice and devour it, sometimes while it was still warm.
After Natasha moved away from her hometown at 17, she just had to find a way to make the cakes on her own. Over time, she was able to perfect the recipe, and became known to new friends and neighbors for her version of the cakes. Then, at 25, she moved to Munich, Germany and struggled to find the right ingredients, materials and pans overseas. She was able to adjust the recipe again, and was thrilled with the final results.
After moving back to the states, she brought her German pans and the latest version of the recipe, and made cakes for her new friends and neighbors in Dallas, Texas. After starting a small craft distillery, she began using the small batch spirits they were producing (rum, then later, whiskey) in the cakes. The new and improved cakes were absolutely to die for.
In 2013, a friend insisted that she offer the cakes for sale from the distillery. So she spent one week making as many cakes as possible, and offered samples and whole cakes for sale that weekend from the distillery tasting room. To say it was a success would be a massive understatement. Approximately 50 cakes sold out in an instant that day, and the cakes continued to fly out the door. Natasha continued making the cakes herself for several years, but life and distillery business called, and today BENDT has a full-time baker crafting each cake with special care. Today’s cakes are made with BENDT No. 5 American Blended Whiskey, and each is a treasure to be savored.
And to this day, they’re still made using Natasha’s German pans.
BENDT Whiskey Cakes are made with generations of love and care. They are handcrafted one by one and are intended to be shared with friends and family. Make them a new family tradition, just as they have always been for us. And be sure to share your story! We love hearing the stories of how special our cakes are for those who love them, and are thrilled that they have become a part of so many celebrations. Cheers!
BENDT Cakes are available year round, so enjoy for the holidays, birthdays or just because.
